A long walk to brunch is fast becoming my new thing to do. Balances out the gluttony somewhat.
(If you’re a regular reader you’ll realise that’s a necessity).
So this weekend I dragged the Bouy on an hour-and-a-half walk to Bondi on the promise of brunch and a seaside stroll. It’s a mostly uphill walk so I knew the bounty had better deliver so headed straight to reliable stalwart Brown Sugar.
Luckily they delivered in spades.
I opted for my favourite menu item the ‘five sides’($15), tomato, avocado, toast, and a choice of either prosciutto or smoked salmon and ricotta or feta. I usually go for the prosciutto and ricotta but in the spirit of #realchange had the salmon and feta instead. Delicious, fresh and not too naughty.
But the real show stopper belonged to the Bouy, who wisely chose the buttermilk pancakes with bacon, banana and maple syrup ($16). I was jealous and highly suspicious of his consistent ability to out order me…
I tell you, you’ve never seen a grown man look so damn pleased with life. He was the kid in the candy store. But for now let us share in his pleasure and gaze upon this beautiful stack of goodness together.
Do you hear the angels singing? not quite? We must need a close-up…
Let it be known these pancakes were huge. And let it also be know they were gooooood. Not all pancakes are. Sad truth.
There’s a smart but welcoming ambiance at Brown Sugar (it’s the same clever guys behind Lox Stock & Barrel). The place is usually busy so factor in some wait time for a table if you’re heading down on the weekend.
Best bit is you can meander down to the beach afterwards and dip your feet (or more) in the sea and sand.
